Dangers of Malaria in Children and Pregnant Women

     * What is malaria?

Malaria is a serious disease that is transmitted through the bite of Anopheles mosquito. Malaria is an infectious disease and attack all age groups of infants, children and adults. Malaria is also very dangerous to pregnant women, because it caused anemia, miscarriage, stillbirth, low birth weight infants (LBW) and maternal mortality.

Every year there are 300-500 million cases of malaria in the world. According to the WHO's malaria cases in 2006 reached 250 million and causes 1 million deaths of children balita.Di main area affected malaria, the disease can be a major cause of death and inhibiting the growth of children.

     * How many people with malaria in Indonesia?

Figures for malaria patients is quite high, reaching 70 million or 35% of the population of Indonesia. In the future, people with malaria will continue to increase due to the relatively rapid mobility of population, environmental changes such as development areas (forest clearing, industrial, mining, etc.) that are less healthy due respect to environmental quality.
